Caring For Our Community

Camden Meals on Wheels has been caring for our community for over 50 years and is proud to support people’s independence and social engagement through providing meal services, transport services and individual social support services. Our services are available for the 65+ senior community across the entire Camden Local Government Area that receive a Government funded Commonwealth Home Support Package (CHSP) and with a My Aged Care number, and a Home Care Package (HCP). Our services enable our clients to remain living independently in their homes and engage with their local community to overall enhance their wellbeing and social connectivity. As our logo states, we are “More than just a Meal”, with all meal deliveries having a dual purpose of a welfare check. All our services are delivered by our team of dedicated volunteers.

History of Camden Meals on Wheels

The Mayor of Camden Ald. R. B. Ferguson called for a public meeting on 23 June 1970 for the purpose of forming “Meals on Wheels”. On that night a committee of eight was formed. On 28 September 1970 Camden Meals on Wheels served it’s first nine meals. In its first year Camden Meals on Wheels served 3,237 meals.

Meals were initially prepared from the Camden District Hospital kitchen, and then later from Carrington where we provided services for many years. We are now located on Little Street in Camden.
